“From 3 December 2012, changes to the Scrap Metal Dealers Act 1964 made it illegal to buy scrap metal for cash in England and Wales, and that remains in force under the Scrap Metal Dealers Act 2013. If you sell metal to a scrap metal dealer, do not expect to be paid in cash; if the dealer does he will be breaking the law.”

What do I need to sell my scrap?
As of October 2013 the Scrap Metal Dealers’ Act has come into action, to legally operate within the act we must record certain details for any scrap metal we receive. To ensure sure we can pay you for your scrap please take a look at the checklist below as to what to bring with you.
The act also states that we cannot pay the seller by cash and is actually illegal to do so. If you have any questions please don’t hesitate to call us on 01457 832 171.
Information required from the seller:
A Photographic UK Driving Licence, Passport or Photographic National Identity Card
PLUS
– Bank or Building Society Statement
– Credit or Debit Card Statement
– Council Tax Bill
– Utility Bill (not a mobile phone bill)
Any of the above must be less than 3 months old
